Inspiring Selby locals praised by charity

December 30, 2024

Selby Hands of Hope (SHOH) has praised the “incredible support” it received from locals in 2024 - the charity’s biggest year to date. In a release on social media, the charity said it was “humbled and inspired” by those who have supported it this year, adding that the need for the charity’s services has “never been greater”.

In 2024, SHOH helped support 28 local schools, presented 594 children with gifts and helped 283 parents and guardians in need with its Christmas Toy Appeal. In total, the charity’s appeal directly supported a whopping 877 people in the community. A representative said: “In just three years, from 2021 to 2024, the number of people supported has more than doubled. “Compared to 2016, the number of schools, children and families helped has grown nearly fivefold. “These figures highlight the increasing number of families in our local areas who rely on this appeal, especially during the festive season.” Since 2016, SHOH has provided 3,399 people living in hardship within the community with much-needed support - something which has proved a lifeline for many.

Speaking about this, the representative added: “This milestone is both a reminder of the challenges faced by families in our community and a testament to the generosity of those who step-up to help. “This year’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of so many individuals, group and businesses; Adrienne Flack, Altrad (Doosan Babcock), Dave Montserrat, Derek Amos, Dawn and Andy Kirby, Fortus Foundation (York), HSBC, Ison Harrison Solicitors, Julie Langford, Keir Mather MP, McDonald’s in Selby, Noah Whittaker, Skipton BF (part of Skipton Building Society), The Crown at Hemingbrough, Yorkshire Building Society and several anonymous customers - your support has truly made Christmas brighter for so many families in need.”

McDonald’s in Selby has collected gifts for SHOH’s Christmas Appeal for many years. The appeal has supported an unprecedented amount of local people in 2024. (24-12-221 SU)
